Inspirational speaker – Tania Carr

If you need a reason to attend our Christmas lunch, I give you two words… Tania Carr!

We are so excited to have Tania as our guest speaker. Many of you will know her as a long-time Chrysalis member but for those of you who don’t… you’re in for a crash course in inspiration and dogged determination.
‘No’ is not in Tania’s vocabulary. She is someone with immense mana. She commands respect through her ability to create opportunity, make things happen and her commitment to never quit.

She is the visionary founder of Real Talk, a rangatahi focused kaupapa that provides a platform for everyday New Zealanders to share their personal stories to foster healing, empowerment, resilience and inspiration.
Why is Real Talk so successful? Because Tania knows what it’s like to have to hide your life behind a sanitised façade to fit in and get ahead. She also knows the power of coming out from behind that façade to share her own life story, and the profound impact that can have on others. Like everything she does Tania just decided to scale that up into the national phenomenon that is Real Talk.

Tania is also the driving force behind Porirua Has Talent – a beautiful event held for the first time this year providing a platform for tamariki and rangatahi to shine. There was not a dry eye in the house and the hidden talent in the community was absolutely astonishing. This event provided a platform for young people to pursue their dreams, boost their self-esteem and give hope to those who needed it.
Tania is a connector, a force of nature, a mother, a wife, a friend and above all a wāhine toa of immense magnitude.

It’s no wonder then that she has recently received a Kiwibank Local Hero Medal as part of the New Zealander of the Year awards.
This honour is reserved for those in our community that make a significant contribution and are a role model for all New Zealanders.
I can’t think of a more fitting recipient, and I can’t wait to hear her story at our Christmas doo.
